The described region lies to the W of the Wh ite Sea coast, and forms p a r t of the Kem D istrict of Karelian Autonomic S. S. Republic. The geological conditions of Shueretski d is tric t are cha rac te ri zed by the presence of deposits carrying a fauna of the P o s t glacial Boreal transgression, by glacial moraine and fluvio- glacial deposits and an underly ing series of P re-Cambrian for mations. These la tte r are represented by 1) a series of crystalline schists, namely: mica and mica-liornblende schists, also by biotite, d isthene-ga rnet-b io tite schists, e tc., and by schistous amphibolites, 2 ) by following igneous rocks: gabbro-norites w ith their a lte ra tion products, meta-gabbro (massive amphibolites), plagioclase and microcline-plagioclase granites, pegmatite and qua rtz veins and vein porphyrites. The complex of metamorphic rocks which is widely developed in the region described is lifted into sleep isoclinal folds of NE strike. The gneiss series which is likewise widely d is tr i buted in the region lies at the base of the metamorphic series. The schist series rests conformably upon the gneisses. The schists which are confined to the synclinal cores (Terbestrov, etc.) have been most intensely crumpled, are the strongest enriched in
