A CONTRIBUTION ТО THE PALAEONTOLOGICAL CHARACTERISATION OF THE LOWER SILURIAN OF THE REGION OF THE MISHINA GORA VILLAGE T. Alikhova S u m m a r y In the outcrops of the dislocated Lower Silurian in the neighbourhood of Mishina Gora village, discovered and studied by B. Asatkin the horizons sufficiently characterised in fauna are the following: O r t h o c e r a t i t e b e d s . In them in a great amount Naudiloidea Zi11., Endoceratidae H y a t t and Endoceratidae M’C o y (especially the former) are present, in a considerably less amount Asaphidae, Illaenidae and Mega- laspidae (large forms were found), indefinable, due to poor preservation and in a small number brachiopods Paurorthis parva ( P a n d .), Siphonotreta ver rucosa Ei c hw. , Pseudometaptoma sp. small Dalmanella (?), Orthis sp. At the very top gastropods were found: Raphistoma aud Worthenia. E c h i n o s p h a e r i t e b e d s. The predominating element of fauna here is composed of Cystoidea: Sphaeronites potnmum Gy 11., Sphaerotiites globosus Ang ., Echinosphaerites aurantium Gy 11., mut. infra and supra He c k , and new forms. The next most distributed group are brachiopods and in an especially great number genus Leptestia and in less amount Glossorthis n. sp. and small Dalmanella (?), a large number of Christiania oblonga, P a n d. In a very small number are present: Platystrophia dentata Pa n d . , Platystrophia lynx E i c h w . , plane-concave forms of Strophomenidae, Pseudocrania aff. depressa E i c hw. , Clitambonites schmidti P a h l . and indefinable Orthis and Param- bonites. The third place according to distribution belongs to trilobites. Among them there are many Illaenidae , in less number Asaphidae and very little Chasmops Odini E i c h w . and Lichas tricuspidatus В e у r. The following are also found Orthoceratidae and Endoceratidae, Bryozoans, Gastropods : Wor thenia and Raphistoma, Hyolites, Conularia, Regeptaculites ( Ischadites ?), rare fragments of stems and members of Pelmatozoa and fragments of grap- tolites. The fauna is almost exclusively brachiopods: Lep- telloidea musca Op., Leptestia musculosa Be kk . , Cliftonia aff. dorsata, Hs i n g . , Clitambonites cf. schmidti P a h l Platystrophia lynx E i c hw. , small fragment of Orthis sp., Bryozoans are found in a considerable amount, of a semispherical habit: Trepostomata U l r i c h and Echinosphaerites aurantium G y 11. Representatives of other groups are extremely rare: Trilobites : Ptery• gometapus exilis E i c hw . and two indefinable fragments, fragments of nuclei of Nautiloidea, Pelecypoda, Gastropoda, fragments of stems of Palmatozoa. S p o n g e b e d s . The following representatives were found in the fauna: sponge Aulocopium aurantium Osw ., Ischadites Mu r c h . (great amount), small Kullervo, Sowerbyella quinquecostata aff. estona О p., fragments of Pa- rambonites sp., a large Platystrophia. In two places in bowlders a few spicules 6
