Kovdor locals honor the m em o ry of our land's defenders. In the park zone, there is a m em o ria l to the border-security soldiers who perished during the Great Patriotic War. Next to it is the m em o ria l sign — a fighter YaK-9D — a m onum en t to the pilots who defended the Soviet High North. Memoria l structures have also been erected in the town center and S hum i-town — in the m em o ry of the no rthe r­ ners perished wh ile fu lfilling the ir m ilita ry duty, and hero-partisans. Annually, Sami games are held on the Kokh- ozero Lake in Yona village: the w in te r Sami games (in February) and the summ e r Sami games for children (in July). In August, a bright celebration is arranged in Kovdor — the Euro- Chem Day. Ama teur teams prepare a pe rfo rm ­ ance programme, a "parade of brides’’ is held, as well as a contest of photographers, a rowing competition, and for the youngest ones — a race in crawlers, a parade of extravagant baby cribs, and a children's parade Fashionable Toddler. К праздни­ ку самодеятельные коллективы готовят раз­ влекательную программу, проводится парад невест, конкурс «Фотолюбитель», соревнова­ ния на лодках, а для самых маленьких участ­ ников — забег в ползунках, парад необычных колясок, детский парад «Модный карапуз». 0
