Churkin BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THE HISTORY AND BACKGROUND OF THE MINING INSTITUTE OF THE KOLA SCIENCE CENTER OF THE RUSSIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES A brief overview of the history and background of the Mining Institute of the Kola Science Center RAS is presented. Actual needs in extension the regional monitoring system are discussed, and some perspective measures are suggested due to provide safety of developing activity in the oil and gas fields on the Barents Sea shelf. Usov HALF-CENTURY ANNIVERSARY ELECTROPULSE METHOD FOR DESTRUCTION OF MATERIALS Physical basics of the electropulse method of materials destruction by forming a disruption channel in solids with impacting of pulsed microsecond voltage as well as regularities of this destruction under influence of an electric discharge channel at liberation of energy of a capacitive accumulator are described. Some resumes of an electropulse technique and technology for drilling of boreholes, cutting rocks in the technological processes of tunneling in an array, cutting blocks of stone, disintegration of ores and technical materials, scraping surfaces and blocks, etc., are presented.
