The mineral was discovered in the middle of the 19thcentury in syenites of South Greenland and Norway. In the beginning of the 20thcentury it was found in the Khibiny and Lovozero tundras during Acad. Fersman's expeditions. In 1928 B.M. Kupletsky discovered it in the Urma-Varaka. This was the first finding of the mineral in alkaline granites. Its name was coined from the Greek aster meaning "star" and phyllon meaning "leaf". There are three deposits in the world, where great samples of astrophyllite can be found. These are in Norway, Greenland and Kola Peninsula. Astrophyllite occurs as stellate aggregates of elongated thinly sliced crystals. The coloring of the mineral is gold-brown and bronze- yellow. Most striking are its segregations in white albite. White background accentuates the remarkable coloring and radiance of "the sun". The Khibiny astrophyllite is very beautiful in souvenirs. There is an opinion that the mineral does lots of good for the health. Talismans made of it are to preserve high spirits, courage, robustness, optimism and self-confidence. Most people believe that astrophyllite heals the metabolism diseases. The Geological Institute KSC RAS and Kola Branch of the Russian Mineralogical Society do not mind it, provided that it helps. АСТРОФИЛЛИТ В современной минералогической систематике астрофиллит открывает целую группу минеральных видов, все они известны на Кольском п-ове. Впервые минерал был найден в середине XIX в. в сиенитах Ю. Гренландии и Норвегии, а в начале XX в. в результате ферсмановских экспедиций - в Хибинских и Ловозёрских тундрах. В 1928 г. Б.М. Куплетский обнаружил астрофиллит на Урма-вараке. Это была первая находка минерала в щелочных гранитах. Его название произошло от греческих слов aster - "звезда" и phyllon - "листок" (растения). В мире известно всего три месторождения с прекрасными образцами астрофиллита: Норвегия, Гренландия и Кольский п-ов. Астрофиллит образует звёздчатые агрегаты вытянутых тонкопластинчатых кристаллов. Окраска минерала - золотисто-бурая и бронзово-жёлтая. Наиболее эффектны его выделения среди белого альбита. Белый фон подчёркивает удивительный цвет и лучистость «солнца». Хибинский астрофиллит очень красив в изделиях. Бытует мнение, что минерал благотворно влияет на человека. Талисманы из него носят для поддержания радостного настроения, бодрости духа, ясности ума, оптимизма и уверенности в себе. Многие верят, что астрофиллит лечит заболевания, связанные с обменом веществ и пищеварением. Геологический институт КНЦ РАН и Кольское отделение РМО не возражают - лишь бы помогало... А.В.
