41 FIELD SEASON 2009 IS OYER! On October 29 the Geological Institute carried out its Scientific Board, where the Report o f the Commission for processingfield materials has been presented. According to plans o f scientific research works, those o f the Department o f Earth Sciences and Presidium RAS inclusive, eighteen field groups startedfor field works this year. The working area covered all but the Kola Peninsula, from the Finnish and Norwegian borders to the eastern end of the Bol'shiye Keyvy, from Rybachiy Peninsula to Northern Karelia (Fig.), from surface deposits to the bottom of the Earth crust. Chronologically, geological formations from the most Precambrian to contemporary ones have been studied. After a lively discussion, the Scientific Board made a resolution that, generally, the program of the field works had been implemented successfully. Materials have been currently processed and scientific results will be presented in annual reports. Organization o f the works was fairly good. Certainly, we did have some break-ups and «I-feel-unwell»s. One can never avoid them! However, the Institute coped with all these: the cars were dragged to the repair centre and fixed, the feeble ones were taken to hospitals and recovered already. On this occasion, on October 30 the Geological Institute Assembly Hall hosted IV Closing o f the Field Season. Like in previous years, employees of the Institute o f the North Economical Problems KSC RAS and veterans of the Geological Institute took part in the event. Geologists and ecologists surprised the visitors with their slide-shows worthy of the «Club of travellers», «In the world of animals» and «In the world o f fishing» top programs and «Round the Earth» magazine (nothing to say about the «Discovery» and «National Geographic»). Ecologists even agreed that in the Varzuga river there were crocodiles, which had occurred as a result of a long- lasting introduction and testified to the purity of the water. Respective slides were presented as a proof. Geologists doubted the trustworthiness o f the slides and insisted on the crocodiles to be erased off the slides. Otherwise, they threatened to paint dinosaurs, mammoth and shaggy rhinoceroses on their slides. As usual, each film was accompanied by a favorite song and toastfor those, who are «in thefield and waders». Long after the end o f the meeting did its participants try to part, while a porter kept an unfriendly eye upon them. Well, dear colleagues, «see you after the next mountaineering, after the next mountain conquered»! Yu.L. Voytekhovsky, Dr., Prof. ПОЛЕВОЙ СЕЗОН 2009 ЗАКОНЧЕН!
