Атомный ледокольный флот создан в 1959 году (ввод в эксплуатацию атомного ледокола «Ленин» 3 декабря 1959 года) для обеспечения вывоза продукции Норильско­ го комбината из Дудинки транспортными су­ дами в акватории Северного морского пути. В связи с мощным освоением в 60-х годах прошлого столетия Арктического побере­ жья строительство атомных ледоколов обе­ спечило снабжение северных территорий строительными материалами, оборудовани­ ем и продовольствием для развития портов, портопунктов населенных пунктов и воин­ ских гарнизонов. До настоящего времени только атомные ледоколы способны рабо­ тать круглогодично в акватории Северного морского пути. Атомный ледокольный флот есть только у России. Сегодня ледокольное обеспечение круп­ нейших национальных арктических угле­ водородных проектов — главная задача Росатомфлота. Currently, icebreaker support o f the larg­ est national Arctic hydrocarbon projects is the main task o f Rosatomflot. In present conditions o f competitive market o f services, the in ten­ sity o f nuclear icebreakers workload is about 36 icebreaking trips /m on th , in average each icebreaker is used 9 months a year. Customers o f nuclear icebreaking fleet are we ll aware tha t on ly Rosatomflot can ensure safe assistance wh ile ma inta in ing commercial speed.
