Нефтегазовая отрасль Oil and gas Industry Today the RS Rules fully correspond to the Northern Sea Route (NSR) system of ship admittance giving the RS-classed ships an additional benefit of saving time and costs, otherwise required to obtain an admission permit. Undoubtedly, these are the key factors to choose RS as a classification society for the high-tech Arctic projects. In 2014, the first oil extracted at an offshore field in the Russian Arctic sector was shipped from an offshore rig. What is the RS view on this project? Prirazlomnaya - the first fixed offshore platform in the Russian zone of the Arctic was designed and built under the RS survey. The facility was installed in the Pechora Sea, 60 km from shore. The technology underpinning the Prirazlomnaya ice- resistant platform completely precludes the discarding of industrial and domestic waste, oils, oilfield water contaminated with production and rainfall discharge and other harmful substances into the sea. RS-classed large shuttle supertankers operate at the field. Are you expecting any other Arctic projects in the nearest future? The steel cutting ceremony for the Yamal LNG prototype vessel – the first ever Arctic LNG carrier was held in September 2014. The ship’s design was developed with RS participation. The Yamal LNG gas carriers will be capable of year- round operation at the temperatures as low as -50 deg. Ñ independently in Arctic ice of up to 2.1 m thick. The estimated entry into service date for the first vessel is June 2016. October 2014 № 2 (25) MurmanshelfInfo 27
