One of them is that our company is already part of the Nord Stream project, which is closely connected with Shtokman in physical terms, as gas from Shtokman will go via Teriberka and Volkhov to the Nord Stream; in technical terms: offshore – onshore – offshore; and in political terms, as we represent German producers who need Russian gas. Our ambition is to become a competent partner for the Shtokman project. We produce and deliver special steels for LNG production units like those planned to be used in Teriberka. Offshore projects are our special field of expertise. So, we have delivered metal for platforms at Snøhvit. Our assortment is packaged and certified for offshore projects ranging from beams, cold-resistant steel grades, heavy plate to pipes and sheet piles. To get the liquefied natural gas ready for marine transportation it has to be cooled up to the temperature of -163° C in order to reduce its initial volume by 600 times. We have a special expertise in production and application of special steel grades intended for high-pressure containers used in gas carriers. Pipes and reservoirs made out of extremely hard metal plate are able to resist fresh frozen gas of -196° C temperature. Starting from1978 our concern has realised about 50 projects related to construction of LNG plants in different countries, some of them in partnership with such companies as French Technip and Norwegian StatoilHydro. We are aware of the fact that most of the steel to be supplied for the Shtokman and other big projects like Murmansk Transport Hub is supposed to be delivered by Russian producers. However, we can take over deliveries of special purpose steels applied in the most difficult operating conditions. We in return are always willing to send our professionals to provide qualified technical consultations to our customers in process of assembling and construction. We put a big emphasis on certification of our products so that they meet all demands imposed to offshore projects. For the Shtokman project which will be realised in extreme natural conditions certification of suppliers is of higher importance. Our companies are certified by the most authoritative certification societies, such as Germanischer Lloyd, Det Norske Veritas, American Bureau of Shipping, and many others. Our capabilities are not restricted to offshore projects. We can be partners in many other production fields. For example, our wear-resistant steels can be interesting for mining companies on the Kola Peninsula. Another example is sheet piling that is successfully used in construction and reconstruction of ports and shore-based terminals. Starting from 2003 cooling facilities of Salzgitter are the most state-of-the-art in the world. In the process of cooling steel acquires its superhard characteristics and transforms into ’quenched and tempered steel’. Being among only few producers in the world we offer wide range of wear- resistant steels tailor-made for different projects and various environments. These are some reasons why the Kola Peninsula is so attractive to us. Hopefully, our products and experiences with our customers will be of interest for Russian enterprises. We hope to not only become a supplier to the Shtokman project, but also to find cooperation partners among Russian companies for other projects. German steel concern Salzgitter AG from Lower Saxony together with its subsidiary Mannesmann is the second largest (following the TüssenKrupp) steel producer in Germany. The total workforce of the concern makes up 23 thousand employees. Annual turnover is € 12 billion, annual profit amounts to € 1,2 billion. Production volume of melted steel makes 8 billion ton per year. The company manufactures sheet and plate iron, beams and steel sheet piles. Mannesmann is the world leader in production of welded pipes and owns the whole register of its manufacture upon steel grades and sizes starting from pipes of only some millimetres diameter up to large diameter pipes. The pipes produced by Mannesmann were used in 1890 in the Caucasus to build the first pipeline. Since that time more than 30 billion ton of pipes enough to twice cover the globe were manufactured by the company. Recently we won a contract for supplies to the Nord Stream pipeline project. Our goal today is to become a supplier to the Shtokman project. Our first steps in Murmansk region were connected with Murmanshelf Association of Suppliers for Oil and Gas Industry. Since past year we are member of the Association.
