26 ÿíâàðü 2009 ¹ 5 ÌóðìàíøåëüôÈíôî Finnbarents is a joint project unit owned by the Rovaniemi University of Applied Sciences and The University of Lapland. These are the two higher education institutions in Rovaniemi, Northern Finland. Finnbarents has been a pioneer in the process of developing regional cooperation between higher education institutions, business and regional administrations. Through different projects, Finnbarents has been able to fulfil the development needs arising from economic life through regional cooperation. On the other hand, Finnbarents has acted as an information point, providing information about the current situation in Russia’s Barents region and Lapland. By developing cooperation in education and research, Finnbarents is also strengthening ties with Swedish and Norwegian institutions of higher education. Training and Barents Expertise Services Finnbarents offers tailor-made training sessions for project professionals. Training is focused on all aspects of the project life cycle. In the field of project training Finnbarents is offering the only International Project Management specialization certificate programme in Finland. To provide optimal service and consultation, Finnbarents has constructed a team that combines project management with topical expertise. Our main fields of expertise lay in business development, tourism and safety management. This reflects itself in our ongoing projects. For specialised knowledge Finnbarents can rely on the knowledge pool of owner organizations as well as on a network of topic specialists. Finnbarents can look back on 10 years of diverse experience in territorial development activities within the Barents Region. This makes us a leader in the project work for the region. Through the projects Finnbarents has expertise in varied subjects covering: Cross Border Cooperation ● Regional Development ● Innovations in Education ● SME Support and Business ● Development Safety and Security ● Tourism ● Forestry and Rural Industries ● Women Entrepreneurship ● Networking and Project Cooperation Finnbarents seeks to sustain the expanding and flexible network of in-house and external experts. This is achieved through organizing and supporting small, locally significant events to large ministry sub-contracted events that include conferences, seminars and workshops. Good examples of the work within networks are the organization of Barents Industrial Partnership conferences, as well as the organization of a common presentation of Murmansk Region and Finnish Lapland in Helsinki, Finland. Hundreds of participants from high-level governmental, regional and business organizations took part in these events. Finnbarentshassuccessfullycooperated with many organizations in the Murmansk Region and implemented projects with such organization as Murmansk Regional Government, Murmansk State Technical University, Association of Suppliers for Oil and Gas Industry “Murmanshelf”, Northern Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Kola Science Centre, Socium+ and many other. Finnbarents – Your Project Expert in the European High North Within two last years enterprises of Murmansk region and Finnish Lapland interested in internationalization of their business have taken part in activities of the Profitable Trade in Barents II project, where Finnbarents acted as the leading partner. On Russian side Murmanshelf Association of Suppliers for Oil and Gas Industry was responsible for the project. Over 100 of participants have taken part in different project activities. The overall objective of the project was to increase business activity and to contribute to economic growth in the Barents region. It was aimed at development of cross-border business cooperation through building ties between companies of Murmansk region and Finnish Lapland, through increasing of their competence in sphere of international business conducting, and through fostering of business support structures on both sides. One of the key components of the project was arrangement of B2B meetings between Finnish and Russian companies. The principle used for organisation of project events was to combine training with practice – partners search and negotiations.
