CLOSE-UP Kharasaveiskaya and others. Such produc tive research work of MAGE has contributed to quite rapid establishment of some spe cialized marine exploration organizations in Murmansk: SMNG, AMNGR, AMIGE, and as a result of their joint activities, many cur rently known oil and gas condensate fields were discovered. - Since 1972 - it is nothing less than nine five -yea r plans. What results could be noted as the most significant ones in the Company activities? - I think the most significant result for the Company is our further advance to the north. We have continued our works in in sufficiently studied areas of the Barents and Kara seas and water zones of the eastern sector of the Arctic due to their inaccessi bility for a long time. We have managed to make the grid more regular for some fea tures thus there appeared many elements on the structural and tectonic map that we constructed during studies. Currently, it is a unique scheme of the shelf knowledge as a single whole. Dozens of new oil-and-gas promising structures on it are considered as a substantial resource growth being es timated at the level of 2.5 billion tons in oil equivalent. Of course, only drilling and its initial results will make it completely clear. The most important outcomes of the Com pany activities are also operations per formed in the Laptev Sea that has been a “white spot” until recently. In a short pe riod of time and in the most complicated conditions of the eastern Arctic, we have succeeded in studying of the sedimentary cover and basement structures and detec ting main tectonic elements of the Ust- Lensky and West Laptev rift related zones. Integrated geophysical surveys conducted by MAGE in poorly studied northern areas of the Barents Sea threw light on struc ture of the North Barents syneclise, Pi- negin megaswell and Franz Victoria trough. So, within elevated zones surrounding the North Barents syneclise, in potentially oil- and-gas bearing Paleozoic and Triassic de posits, 20 new local features with a total area of 26,890 km2were revealed. In the area of the Pinegin megaswell, 22 local highs with a total area of 5,000 km2 were discovered and in the Franz Victoria trough - 18 local highs including 7 large ones. The growth of predicted resources owing to newly discovered features amounted to 1,300 million tons in oil equivalent. Survey grid density works within the previously recognized large structures have enabled to discover new structures: the Gidrografov structure, the Salmskaya and Varnekskaya structures in the Prednovozemelskaya area. - Is the re any shortage of personnel? Since high-class specialists are required in geophysics, and these , if I may say so, are rarities. 6 MURMANSK MILE • 4-2018
