2) the magnitude of the toroidal magnetic field associated with north- south field-aligned currents in daytime middle and low latitudes, especially in the solstitial seasons and at the time of solar flaresi 3) space current below the satellite orbit in various directions obtain able through an application of Ampere's theorem, for both quiet and disturbed days* 4) the height of eastward ring current at the bottom of westward ring current in the magnetosphere, the existence of which has been recognized earlier through the study of charged particle motion with a reasonable height- dependent density profile of ions and electrons in the geomagnetic field (Akasofu and Chapman, 1961). It will be interesting to know whether or not the eastward ring current is situated at the level of the ionosphere. It must be also emphasized here that the study of electric currents in the ionosphere and magnetosphere is most effectively carried out, if the satellite data can be compared with the ground data of various north-south magnetometer chains well distributed over the world.
