changed and which ia the convection eastward electrojet, there is an extremely good correlation between the negative B z component and the positive X compon ent. In the3e cases it is absolutely justified to say that the eastward elect- rojet is controlled by the interplanetary magnetic field. Beginning, maxima and minima of the activity of the eastward electrojet occur rather exactly half an hour after that of the negative B z component. It is another matter with the two events of Pig. 13 for which- according to Pig.9 - great equatorward displacements of the eastward electrojet occurred. Here, the correlation between both parameters is bad. Both positive bay dis turbances begin with a positive B^ component. On October 4, 1983 1600-1700 UT and December 11, 1983, 1440-1600 UT the B z component is positive during existing eastward electrojet. Obviously, a magnetospheric process must be used for interpretation of the occurrence of this eastward electrojet. Though only a few examples could be presented here, these investigations also indicate that for generation of the eastward electrojet - just as for the westward electrojet - two processes are responsible, an interplanetary one and a magnetospheric one. Pig. 13. The same as Pig. 12 on 4 October 1983 and 11 December 1982. Pig. 14. Hew conception about convection and substorm electrojets including a substorm eastward electrojet. 67
