EASTWARD ELECTROJET AND RIOMETER ABSORPTION IN THE AFTERNOON SECTOR. Grafe et al. /1984/ showed that the riometer absorption during positive magn etic disturbances in the after noon sector is not always being observed. Fig.10 and 11 show from this publication examples of positive disturbances in the horizontal component of Sodan- kyla in the afternoon sector together with the CNA recordings for different structures of the Finnish riometer chain (Ranta, 1978). These two figures show distinctly two different types of positive bay disturbances. Those of Fig.10 are not accomp anied by increased riometer absorption. They belong to the convection-like type. On the other hand, the impulse-like variations in the examples of Fig.11, superimposed to a convection— like disturbance, are accompanied by distinct CNA disturbances. This ргосезз is obviously characterized by an increased particle precipitation.
