Pig.7 and 8 show the result for both events. It is to be seen that the position of the center of the convec tion electrojet varies only insignificantly in dependence on time. The slow equatorward shifting of the eastward elect rojet of about 1°/hour is attributed rather to a spatial than a temporal effect. On the other hand, the short-periodic disturbances superimposed to the convection electrojet show intense short-time displacements of the positi on of the electrojet center both in the negative disturbances after 1800 UT and in the positive ones before 1800 UT. Only the substorm on May 5, 1984, 2000 UT, is an exception, characterized by constancy of the electrojet center. Pig. 9 shows a representation of the position of the center for differ ent examples of an intense eastward electrojet in the afternoon sector. Again it is to be seen that there are obviously developments of the eastward elect rojet which are characterized by a stable position and other ones whi c h have intense short-time movements. The last ones are coupled with an occurence of a westward electrojet poleward of the eastward electrojet. Should the equator ward shifting of the eastward electrojet be a peculiarity of the convection eastward electrojet? It is rather to be supposed that this is another process, the more so as the convection westward electrojet does not show large-scale movements. Pig. 8. The same as Pig.7 on 5/6 M a y 1984. 64
