THEMIS observations o fsubstorm intensification near inner edge o f tl:e plasma sheet 5. Conclusion In this paper, we found that, in the end of the substorm growth phase in the pre-midnight sector of magnetosphere, the convection boundary of 10-keV electrons is embedded in the outer region of the trapped ions at r~ 6 Re. A few minutes before the substorm onset, simultaneously with an intensification of auroral arc in same longitudinal sector, the oscillations of the fields and particles with period ~ 50-60 s start near this convection boundary. Observations of such oscillations near the convection boundary of 10-keV electrons in the magnetosphere have not been reported before. These oscillations are consistent with the ballooning mode in the near-Earth magnetotail. The existence of the MCS in substorms has been revealed by some previous satellite observations. Lui and Kamide (2003) concluded that the substorm current system is predominantly the MCS and attracted a non- MHD processes for mechanism of the substorm MCS. In this paper, we found, that the signs of the estimated perturbation current and measured electric field are similar to ones for the dynamo of MCS that suggested for nonadiabatic processes. Such findings from satellite observations in the plasma sheet have not been reported earlier. The explosive stretching and following dipolarization observed by THEMIS-C satellite are a manifestation of the magnetospheric generator of the 3-D meridional current system of В type [Bostrom, 1964] during non linear growth of ballooning instability when non-MHD processes are also turning on.
