EMISSIONS OF ARGON IN AURORAL SPECTRA L.A.Petrunkin, M.A,Petrunkin. It Is known, that argon is one of main atmospheric components of the volume near the Earth's surface4). The data on comparatively large %fiv- concentrations at auroral altitudes have been obtained during a number of direct measurements onboard the satellites E.'sU.O-A > fter-os.~ A and AEf-C С*-”bl • Therefore we have made an attempt to discover i\<- lines in auroral spectra. ,Ar emissions seemed to be unidentified before only becouse of the fact that the most intense lines, corresponding to Л*~ transmittions from to S configuration, were blended by 0 a and jVa bands. Since the distance between the lines in these bands is О 0 about \ к , the spectral resolution near A and large luminosity are needed for a confident clarification of At- lines from these bands. As far as we know, measurements with such resolution for considerable spectral intervals (aX^SOOjO weren’t carried out, although theoretically their realisation is possible D M . A detailed examination of typical auroral spectra in the range from. 3>600 to £ 7 0 0 A published in different years (_ e.g. Chamberlain, 1963 Ls2b ; Henriksen, 1978 , etc. ^ has been done. In these spectra ^ a part of them is re presented in Pig. i ) there are many sufficiently strong- -pronounced, but unidentified lines. Some of them in ^.53 are even marked by question-marks. It turned out that a part of these lines, within the resolution range, coincides with both neutral and ionized Лг- lines. Such emissions are marked by arrows in Fig. 4 ; their wavelenghts taken from tables of Zaidel СтЛ. The presence of these lines in the spectrum represented
