!n the monograph are considered structure of magnetic fields in the magnetosphere, generation of large-scale electric fields and currents, main instabilities in the magneto­ sphere and ionosphere. Survey of the solar wind geoeffective parameters is given. It is shown how the IMF southward component can lead to geomagnetic storm, substorm, erosion of the dayside magnetosphere, equatorward shift of the auroral oval. The book is written in a sufficiently simple form and may be recommended for graduate and post-graduate students.
