southward widening of the electrojet ie observed simulten- eouely with the increase of the electric field horizontal component. At 0240 UT the balloon 2 AEP crossed the southern bound­ ary of the energetic electron precipitating region (L-4.2) and since this time the detector registered the emission ground flux only. Measurements of X-ray auroral emission onboard the balloon 4 GP was carried out until 1000 UT (Pig.4-5). The photometer registered the aurora until the dawn. These data are of interest for investigations of pulsations and microbursts of precipitating particle fluxes. The electric field was registered onboard the balloon 5 МЕР until 1400 UT. Separate beylike field enhancements reaching 15 mV/m were registered in the horizontal field as well as Bc5 pulsations. Events of March 5-6. 1979. Stratospheric measurements were carried out by 7 balloons: 15 AEP, 16 GE, 17 МЕР, 1ttTC, 19 IE, 20 TP, 21 TP. The data obtained by the Soviet pay- - loads 15 AEP and 17 МЕР and the Austrian payload 16 GE have been handled out. The balloons drifted mainly eastward along L=5,3 (Pig.1b). X-ray emission was recorded by the balloon 15 AEP as eoon as it reached its floating altitude (32 km). X-ray emission bay lasted until 1425 UT (Pig.8). The fore-front of the bay is determined by the balloon's altitude. Some effects associated with the precipitation of energetic particles were registered at ground-based stations: a bay in riometric absorption appeared at Apatity, Lovozero early at dusk (14-16 LT). This bay is associated with the precip­ itation of energetic electron fluxes drifting from the nighteector and is characterized by a hard energetic spectrum. But it lacks rapid pulsations and microbursts typical for morning bays. Prom 1330 to 1400 UT intensification of the' electric field horizontal component is observed (Pig.8). A rather large value (EmflT с 60 mV/m) of the electric field is re­ gistered until 1600 UT. After 1630 UT the balloon gradual­ ly descends and there is no increase in the counting rate 32
