Belyi island, later it is registered at the western stations. At 1904 UT the maximum is registered at Kiruna. Diffuse aurora bands oriented north-south appear over Loparskaya. The bands move from east to west. The bands and electrojet orientation leads to intense burstlike change of the magnetic field D-component. The effective current seems to flow from north to south along the diffu.se aurora bands. From 1906 to 1915 UT the aurora cease and the positive dis turbances in the field D-component decrease. At 1920 UT a new aurora band oriented north-south appears on the eastern edge at Loparskaya. Aurora bands move west ward; the positive bursts are observed in the magnetic field D-component; until 1940 UT the bands shift to the western edge of Loparskaya and then cease. The balloon 2 AEP was located between Kiruna and Hovani- emi during this event (Pig.1a). Five X-ray bursts of 5-1o min. duration were registered. The first burst coincide- with the major breakup at 1o39 UT. The balloon's photometer registered corresponding aurora bursts. Further bursts are associated with the appearance of the diffuse aurora bands oriented north-south and with their east-westward move ment. The X-ray energetic spectrum is rather hard, EQph^ 40 kev (e-folding energy) in the burst maxima. Note that the burst maximan registered by the ground-photoneter at Kiruna is deljwed by 5-10 min. respective to that onboard the ballocfircT'hus, the average velocity of the precipitating region westward movement is about 0,3 km/sec. Further analy sis of the arc orientation, the place of appearance, its direction and the velocity of movement will supply data for associating the observed events with tne dynamics of the energetic electrone flux source in the magnetosphere. From 2002 to 2030 UT a distinct bay is observed in X-ray emission. Somewhat earlier at 1957 UT aurora агсз ana- diffuse bands appeared to the south of view field of the all-sky camera at Loparskaya. The energetic particle precip itation begins on the geomagnetic latitude 61-64°; a rio- metric absorption bay develops at Oulu, Rovaniemi.Sodankyla. The X-ray energetic spectrum ie hard. It slightly softens 28
