are mentioned in Sections З»**-. The simultaneity of some sudden changes in precipitation and currents within the Harang discon tinuity with both energetic particle and E-B field spikes in the dawnside PS, found during interval A . suggests rather a large scale of these features. Presumably, these features are distinct from the expansion-like features, but this must be checked up and studied further. 6. Conclusions The scientific objectives of SMC— study seem to cover many problems important for further advance in the magnetospheric physics. Two selected periods apparently represent the best examples of SMC episodes. The data base, which is possible to construct for them, seems to be adequate in studying the main aspects of SMC-related problems. So, we propose to carry out a broad cooperative study of SMC-related problems on the basis of all available information to carry out a SMC-campaign. Preliminary work on data collection have already been initiated by the team, including both the authors of this paper, ARCAD ex- perimentators and other scientists; some examples of the data are presented here. Further work may proceed in different ways, includ ing independent studies of various aspects by different teams and individuals with subsequent discussion of the results and original viewpoints on this subject. We acknowledge the support to this study obtained from WDC-A (R&S), WDC-A (STP) and WDC-B, and also the contribution to this study at the data collection stage from DBe. We are also indebted to Yu.I.Galperin, O.M.Kaspopov and I.A.Kuzmin for their support of SMC-campaign activity. 21
