4 AUKORAL PHENOMENA - 71 'ihe observational data of Polar Geophysical Institute Academy of Sciences of USSH Editor B.E.Brunelli Apatity, 1975 The report contains the results of complex observations of geophysical phenomena in auroral zone carried out by Polar Geophysical Institute of Ac.Sci.USSE at Oola Peninsula in 1971. The report is the third one in-series, in the previous reports the results carried out in 1970 (first and second halfs of year) were presented and the description of the equipment and the methods of observation also «ere given. The data for publication were prepared by the next scientific workers of our institutes the variations of geomagnetic field (Loparskaya station) - G.A. Loginov, L„T.Afanas, jeva, riometer data A Yu.G.Mizun, A.P.Osepjan, photographic and spectral data of aurora (Loparakaya) - L.S.Evlashin, G.F.Totunova, G.V.Starkov, the obser vation of balloon data - L.L.Lazutin, 0.A.Melnikov, The description of activity was done by O.I.Shumilov. The editorial groups B.E.Brunelli (editor-in-chief), L . V . Kovalevskaya (secretary), G.V.Starkov, O.I.Shumilov. The report content The report contains the description and analysys of geophysical activity in 1971 and following detailed data; - the original records of S-ooj*poaeat of geomagnetic field variations at Loparakaya statoon. In some cases the missed records at Loparskaya were eubstitued by records at Lovozero station. - the values of hourly range r^. - the graphs of riometer absorption (riometer 32MHz , Loparskaya, absorption in dB). - the observational data of balloon flights ( X rays and particles) carried out near Apatity. - aacaplots constructed on data of all-sky C-180 camera (Loparskaya) in accordance with instruction of IGX (the first three lines correspond to the sky sectors - N,Z,S, the lower two - to activity). - the main emission intensity tables contained the maximal intensity values in th* 8-steps estimation scale ( A = 4278І, 5577^, 6300І and 6789І)» The universal time is everywhere used. Sometimes there is the additional local time scale. The times of midnight, sunrise and sunset also sometimes are indicated. The local midnight time for Oola Peninsula is 22^ UT. Auroral activity in 1971 This part of report contains the description of the general peculiarities and more detailed information concerning some outstanding fearuree of a number of the auroral substorms. According to the calendar of activity (Fig.1) which is constructed on the base of magnetic, ionospheric arid auroral data one can see rather pronounced
