4 nJTRODUCTIOH. The Auroral Subcenter of World Data Center B2 continues by this Issue its publication of aurora observational data at the Soviet stations in Arctic and Antarctic. Auroral data are presented by ascaplots as was adopted at Moscow IAGA Assembly in September 1958 /1/. This issue contains the auroral data of 1980. The list of stations and their coordinates are enumerated in Table 1. Ascaplots of 1972-1974 and 1977-1979 were published earlier /5,6/. Ascaplots are the information on aurora occurence in three latitudinal inter vals (north, zenith, south) each corresponding to three degrees of latitude. Aurora activity in the senith region is given in a three-ball scale. The data are given for every half-rn-hour interval of observations. The ascaplots also contain the information on cloudiness and Moon lighting. The methods of ascaplotting are shown. Initial data from all stations which data are vised in the present ieeue, are kept in the Auroral Subcenter. The indices of auroral activity are given for each day (Table 2). The ascaplots have been prepared by workers of the Auroral Subcenter: L,H.Korobeynikova, N.Г.Maltseva and O.V.Uachenko under the head of L.H.Smirnova. The indices of auroral activity have been calculated by L.N.Smirnova.
