4 I N T R O D U C T I O N The present book is the continuation of aurora WDO-Bg Subcenter publications of aurorae observations data at the Soviet stations in Arctic and Antarctic. The previous two books /1,2/ contain the data of 1972 and 1973* Aurorae data are presen ted in askaplots as it was adopted at IAGA Assambley in September 1958 in Moscow.! A detail description of askaplotting method is given in work /3/. This volume pre sents the data of 1977. The list of stations coordinates (askaplots of which are used in this book) are given in Table 1. Askaplots are the information about aurorae occurence in three latitudinal intervals (north, zenith, south). Each interval corresponds to three latitude deg rees. Aurorae activity in the zenith region is presented according to three ball scale. Askaplots also carry the information about cloudiness and considerable Moon lightening occurence. As the previous volume, the present one contains the Table of planetary indices of auroral activity for each day. The askaplots are prepared by Aurorae Subcenter workers! L.N.Korobeynikova, N.P.Maltseva and 0.V.Yuschenko under the head of L.N,Molchanova. Aurorae activity index PA is calculated by L.N.Molchanova.
