4 I N T R O D U C T I O N The Auroral Subcenter of the World Data Center B2 continues the publication of auroral observations at the Soviet stations in Arctic and Antarctic. Three issues have been already published /1-3/ including the data of 1972,1973 and of 1977. Auroral data are presented by ascaplots as it was accepted in September 1958 at Moscow IAGA Assembly. The ascaplotting method was described in detail in two ascaplots issues using the data of the world stations network, edited by W.Stoffregen /4,5/, This issue con cerns the data of 1974. The list of Stations,of their coordinates, of the institutions running the observations,of the observational data used in the issue, is given at Table 1. All original data are kept in Apatity in the Auroral Subcenter of the World Data Center B2. Ascaplots carry the information of aurora occurence for each staiion at three latitudinal intervals (north, south, zenith) cor responding approximately to 3° of the latitude. The zenith region aurora activity is presented in three-level scale. Ascaplots con tain also the information of cloudiness and moon lightening. The present issue as well as the previous ones includes planetary indices of auroral activity for each day and some statistical comparisons with the level of the solar and geomagnetic distur bances. The ascaplots axe prepared by the Auroral Subcenter workers L.N.Korobeynikova,N.i1.Maltseva and О.V.Yuschenko under the head of L.N.Molchanova. PA auroral activity indices axe calculated by L .N.Mo1chanоva.
