Kola Science Centre RAS. - 2011. - 95 p. For the first time modem ethnic situation in small towns of the Murmansk region, as well as the history of its forming are reviewed in the given monograph. On the one hand author analyses stereotype pictures of habitants people of small towns in the Murmansk region and peculiarities of ethnic migrants (particularly those, who are often called «the Caucasians»), relations toward them. On the other hand, the author describes the attitude of recent migrants to the local population, to the features of northerners. The questions of ethnic identity and its changes are examined in the given article from the point of view both of objective and subjective factors. Experience of migration and adaptation of people and families from the southern parts of the countiy to the Kola North and northerners are described as well. The given research combines both historical and socially-anthropological approaches. It is based both on fields materials and on documentary information. Verbal and written interviews and also spontaneous utterances of townspeople were the basic material. Texts were recorded on the territoiy of the Murmansk region in the period of 2004-2009. The book is intended for sociologists, historians, ethnographers, teachers of public and humanitarian disciplines, students, and also to a common reader, for all, who is interested in modem ethnic problems and culture of small northern towns.
