Oktyabrina Voronova Seasons of the year My first joy is the appearance o f spring: From under the snowdrifts come the happy slushy waters. The forest wakes from a cannonade o f ice drifts. The sun is high. Sky and clear distances... The second joy is an unclear frosty colour: Shy leaves o f a short faded summer. In the polar tundra, floods o f endless light Splashes in the lakes - The comfort o f fishermen’s adages... The third joy is the time o f harvesting fruit: Secreted away in each house, a year’s worth. In the swamp, spots where berries ripen. In the woods, Secret clusters o f mushrooms The fourth joy is the mountains’ snowy slopes: Black sky in the big dazzling stars. The earth retires to a much deserved rest In its warm fur coat, Buttoning up for a while... Only I am never at rest. If once upon a time I found out something, It was this: People need me Every day and every year. Only then do I obtain a state o f peace. Translated by Christopher Edgar
