Sandimirov S. Heavy metal contents in whitefish (Coregonus lavaretus) along a pollution gradient in a subarctic watercourse. Environ. Monit. Assess. 2011, V. 182, №1-4, p. 301-316.

Environ Monit Assess (2011) 182:301-316 309 Fig. 4 The correlation between a Ni, b Cu and c Cd in surficial sediments and in whitefish (DR and SR combined) gills, liver and kidney. Slopes of the relationships are indicated by lines of linear regression, all which were statistically significant (P < 0.05), except of Cu in kidney (P = 0.053) and Cd in kidney (P = 0.2) a) b) c) Sediment [Ni] (^g g-1 DW) Sediment [Cu] (^g g-1 DW) Sediment [Cd] (^g g-1 DW) in the other lakes, in particular in Vaggatem and Rajakoski where the LTOvalues exceeded 40 cm. Similarly, the condition factor was both for DR and SR whitefish lowest in Kuetsjarvi, increased towards Vaggatem and then decreased again in Lake Inari (Fig. 6) . In all lakes, SR whitefish had higher condition factor than DR whitefish, which likely is related to the different ecology of the two morphs. For DR whitefish, the size at 50% matu ration was lowest in Kuetsjarvi (9.0 cm) and 50 40 30 8 20 10 1 2 3 4 5 Lake locality Fig. 5 Growth performance (von Bertalanffy’s LTC) of SR (filled squares) and DR whitefish (circles) in the studied lake localities (1 Kuetsjarvi, 2 Skrukkebukta, 3 Vaggatem, 4 Rajakoski, 5 Lake Inari). Vertical bars indicate 95% confidence limits Skrukkebukta (9.4 cm), increasing significantly towards Vaggatem (17.0 cm) and Lake Inari (15.5 cm; Fig. 7a). Similarly, for SR whitefish the smallest size at maturation occurred in Kuetsjarvi (11.2 cm), compared to considerably larger sizes in Skrukkebukta (28.7 cm), Vaggatem (31.4 cm) and Rajakoski (30.9 cm) and intermediate sizes in Lake Inari (19.0 cm). Also the age at 50% maturation of the DR and SR whitefish was dis tinctly lowest in Kuetsjarvi (2.4 and 3.4 year, respectively), increasing towards Skrukkebukta, Vaggatem (peak values of 4.0 and 6.8 year, respec tively) and Rajakoski, and decreasing towards in termediate values in Lake Inari (3.2 and 4.8 year, respectively; Fig. 7b). 1.3 1.2 - В I a 1.1 “ о 1.0 - S w * £ 43 -Я- c 0 9 £ 9 ж ж 0.8 - - 0.7 1---------1---------1---------1---------1--------- 1 2 3 4 5 Lake locality Fig. 6 Fulton’s condition factor for SR (filled squares) and DR whitefish ( circles ) in the studied lake localities (1 Kuetsjarvi, 2 Skrukkebukta, 3 Vaggatem, 4 Rajakoski, 5 Lake Inari).
