Aircraft within parenthesis indicates the actual aircraft type. •• Although not consistent with the previous total, the victories on 20 September 1943 are numbered as Nos. 51 through 53 in the combat report which was written by Walter Schuck. ••• During the Oak Leaves award ceremony in the Reichsluftfahrtministerium on 7 November 1944, an offi cial in the Reichsluftfahrtministerium informed Schuck, possibly on the initiative of Reichsmarschall Goring, that they knew that Schuck had between thirty and forty unconfirmed victories in addition to his 171 confirmed victories. Schuck now was informed that many of these had been confirmed by the Navy, where sailors on board the ships Schuck had protected had seen Soviet aircraft go down into the sea. These were officially added to his score of 171. Note: Some sources assert that Schuck was credited with the destruction of four Hurricanes in aerial com bat on 5 June 1942. However, the authors have not been able to find any document which supports this. To the contrary, Walter Schuck refutes such a claim, and doc uments show that due to adverse weather there was no flight activity in the region on 5 June 1942. T
