Oxford: University Press, 2002. 378 p. S UMMA R Y The complex o f structural and functional characters o f the symplastic and apoplastic dicotyledons is described. Evolutionary sequence o f their types is constructed and the key for their identification is proposed. On the materials of a database, the spectrum of typological diversity for families and subclas ses is revealed. The distribution o f the types along the phylogenetic lines of dicots is analyzed. The ac celeration o f the structural and functional differentiation o f dicots corresponding with the acceleration o f ecological differentiation o f biomes is shown. The differences of ecological ranges for symplastic and apoplastic plants are discussed. On the results o f ecophysiological researches a new approach to ecological classification o f dicots is proposed. 1485
