Наставничество в культурах Севера России. 233 UDC: 39+37.035.6 DOI: 10.33876/2311-0546/2024-3/232-246 Original article © Elena Pivneva and Irina Razumova M EN TO R IN G IN TH E CU LTURES OF TH E RUSS IAN NORTH : S C IE N T IF IC R E F L E C T IO N S AND SOC IA L P R A C T IC E S This article presents an analytical review o f the reports presented at the section «Institute o fMentoring in the Cultures o f the Russian North: Scientific Reflections and Social Practices» within the XV Congress o fAnthropologists and Ethnologists o fRussia (St. Petersburg, 26-30 June 2023). The reports illustrate the diverse mani festations o fmentoring and its importance in contemporary context. The «bearers o f normative information» acting as mentors are called upon not only to preserve fo lk knowledge and skills as a historical value, but also to introduce them to them into practice. The article begins with a section on general definitions and approaches to the phenomenon o f mentoring. It is shown that mentoring is a «cultural universal», a mechanism o f social continuity in all eras and among different peoples. Despite the evident interest on the part o f researchers, the institution o f mentoring has been studied unevenly. This is a consequence o f the multifunctionality o f this phenome non and the diversity o f its specific historicalforms.
