Charnolusky presented "horrors of the expedition reality" which he believed the rela­ tives of travellers had in their imagination: 60 degrees of frost; a snowstorm that mixed reindeer, people, equipm ent... Terrible snow-ice chaos. The author in any situation which might arise in this "severe land", tried to notice as much as possible positive without letting go the camera and diary (see fig. 45). Charnolussky recollects usual for him walks during the expedition at leisure-time: "It was a free day. D.A.Zolotaryov was engaged in his scientific af­ fairs, and we, doctor and 1went outside, to stretch our legs. Opposite small house there played young and little girls. They danced "girl with girl".
