Fig. 23, 24. Drawings are based on the motive of "obtain ing" songs, similar to "obtaining" of ethnographic ex hibits (fig. 29,31). In the caption in fig. 23 an ordinary citation which is derived from a romance "You used to ask for songs , from repertoire of a Gipsy songs singer Sasha Makarov. (1910-ies). By the way, in the drawing of V.Ya.V. uses some mercantile methods of getting interested an informant: holding in his hands, obviously the expedition canned food, he shows one of cans to a woman. Fig. 24 uses the theme of flirtation for the sake of getting ethnographic information or exhibits (compare fig. 11,31). "Strawberry" as a play ful-ironical synonym of romantic-erotic adventures goes back to the poem by N. V. Gogol "Dead souls". In Chapter 4, Nozdrev tells Tchitchikov about a new friend, "a really nice person" and "a hard drinker re ally and truly" lieutenant Kuvshinnikov: "Believe it or not, he can't miss even common women. He calls this: to use some "strawberry".
