Polikarpova The birch forests grow along the coasts or rivers and lakes, in the slopes and at old forest fire sites. in the shallow valley form good wetland cond ition s fo r ducks, geese, swans, shore - birds and gulls (Fig. 2. I.A). The key area is the section o f the river which is called Fjarvann. This is an area of shallow water with small islets and shallow coasts w ith dense sedge and grass vegetation.
