The numbers o f Whinibrels varied on the annual basis w ithout a clear long-term trend (Fig. 1.4). The numbers o f Jack Snipes decreased in 2000-2005 . The numbers o f Snipes increased in 2000-2003, and then dropped. In 2005 Snipes were not recorded at co n ­ trol plots at all (Fig. 1.5). The reasons behind these p attern s shown by snipes remained unknown.
