Khlebosolov from Ryazan State University has been working in Pasvik since 1998. They study behaviour, ecology and organization o f communities ofb irds. E.I. Khlebosolov has published several articles and books on the avifauna o f Pasvik (Khlebosolov et al. 2000, 2005, 2006a). M.S. Yablokov from Polistovsky nature reserve participated in waterfowl counts on the Pasvik river and in surveying the wetlands in 2006. Ornithological research o f the late 20th and early 21th centuries summarised the old-style faunistic studies and started the stage o f more advanced investigation o f avi­ fauna o f this area. The present-day Pasvik is a model plot where various population and synecological studies are conducted, new approaches and m ethods o f studying birds are tested. 1.2. Current status of avifauna of Pasv ik Northern Fennoscandia has been long and frequently visited by ornithologists, therefore the local avifauna is well studied.
