Among Russian ornithologists who have worked in Pasvik nature reserve in 1993-2007, V.D. Kokhanov, A.S. Gilyazov, S.N . Bakkal, I.A. Kharitonova, E.I. Khlebosolov, M.S. Yablokov deserve to be specially mentioned. Each of them made a contribution to the study o f avifauna o f the protected area and the whole Pasvik valley. Senior biologist from Kandalaksha nature reserve V.D. Kokhanov worked in Pasvik in 1993—1994. He surveyed a large area and made important additions to the list o f birds o f Pasvik. During the same years, a researcher from Lapland nature reserve A.S. Gilyazov made autumn and w inter counts o f grouse. He selected the most typical habitat plots that have been monitored until present. In 1996, an ornithologist from the Zoological Institute o f Russian Academy o f Sciences S.N. Bakkal made spring surveys o f passerines. He also participated in waterfowl sur­ veys and made the first record o f the Little Gull for Pasvik (Bakkal 1996). A researcher from St. Petersburg State University V.M. Khaitov and I.A. Kharitonova from Russian Bird Ringing Centre participated in the studies o f V.V. Bianchi in 1999 O.A. Makarova 41
