tussocks are alternated with flat areas. Water Pipits occur in relatively dry rocky parts o f the sea coast with low and sparse vegetation. Wet and well drained areas o f grassy tundra with diverse vegetation are the habitats o f Lapland Longspurs. Such areas are mainly typical o f zone lowland tu n dra, but sometimes occur in the mountain tundra as well. Rocky tundra is well suit ed for occurrence o f Snow Buntings that feed in the small patches o f grassy vegeta tion between rock outcrops. Apart from ground-feeding birds, species that forage in subshrubs breed in the mountain tundra: Willow and Arctic Warblers, Common Redpoll and some others. These birds are most typical o f forest habitats, but penetrate the mountain tundra following scrub. 161
