Reed Bunting. Breeding density of the Reed Bunting depends on the distribution pattern of the scrub. The size of breeding territories in uniform scrub is 0.5—0.8 ha. In the areas where the scrub extends as a narrow belt along a stream, the territo ries have an elongated shape and are 300-400 m long and 15-20 m wide. The area of the territory remains roughly the same as in continuous scrub (Fig. 3.29). Observations show that foraging Reed Buntings mainly use the lower part o f bushes between the ground and the crown (Fig. 3.30). Sometimes the bird quickly climbs to the top of the bush, looks around or sings. The foraging behaviour of Reed Buntings con sists o f hops and short flights within the scrub. The bird moves along the lower branches under the crowns and carefully examines the surface of the The Reed Bunting is a typical inhabitant of the coastal scrub. S.L. Eliseev K.D. Konovalov Reed Bunting habitats include willow scrub along the banks o f rivers and streams. 149
