In this section we review only the most general rules that refer to the specific structure o f passerine population in the natural ecosystems o f Pasvik. Mechanisms o f formation o f passer­ ine communities are discussed in more detail in Chapter 3. 2.4.5.1. Forest-dwelling passerines Passerines that inhabit the forest communities o f Pasvik are most diverse in their specific composition and form a high population density. The complex struc­ ture o f forest habitats and a broad range o f food objects allow them to forage by var­ ious methods. It creates a large number o f potential ecological niches for different taxonom ic and ecological groups o f birds. Among forest-dwelling passerines insectivorous and granivorous species may be distinguished. Insectivors can be divided into birds foraging in the crowns of trees and bushes and those foraging on the ground. All granivors belong to the group o f birds feeding in crows (Tab. 2.1). Table 2.1.
