Introduction 181 not reach the main phenological data stream to be statistically processed in a centralized facility (Minin, 2000,2015; Fedotova, 2012). Bridging this gap between strict nature reserves and the national phenology centre is clearly a pressing task for the nearest future. The authors are deeply grateful to colleagues whose comments have helped to improve the manuscript - N. G. Berlina, Senior Researcher at the Lapland Reserve, E.V. Shutova, Senior Researcher at the Kandalak- shsky Reserve, 1.1. Sapel'nikova, Senior Researcher at the Voronezhsky Reserve. Through all these years of gathering materials for the book we've been assisted by the endlessly respected team of the Pasvik Reserve. We’d like to especially acknowledge the contribution of M. G. Trusova, N. G. Vorobyova, 0. V. Krotova, E. S. Golovanova, G. A. Dmitrenko, E. L. Dmitrenko, Yu. M. Bychkov and others. At the first stage of the work, we were assisted by experts: 0. A. Khlebosolova, Yu. A. Kushel and students of Ryazan State University. They took part in visual aids preparation, gave lessons to Russian and Norwegian pupils in ecological camps. They also have been most helpful in many other ways at the be ginning of the "Phenology of the North Calotte "project implementation. Publication of the book would have been impossible without the grant to the socially-minded project "Pasvik Strict Nature Reserve knowledge and information capacity building for efficient dialogue at the Russian-Norwe- gian border" (2016-2017), the winner of the social projects competition under the MMC Norilsk Nickel Charitable Programme “WORLD OF NEW OPPORTUNITIES”. Support for such kind of publications shows us the industrial companies’ understanding of the necessity of environmental research, monitoring and nature interpretation in the functioning region. We trust this manual will be useful for teachers and schoolchildren, young researchers at Russia’s strict nature reserves and national parks, our nearest colleagues abroad, as well as for anyone keen on seasonal observations of nature. We dare hope it w ill boost interest in phenology among various age categories and contribute to the development of Russian volunteer phenology network by pulling in new supporters. We would welcome re views and criticism, and w ill appreciate them e-mailed at pasvik.zapov- ednik@yandex.ru or sent at our postal address: Pasvik Reserve, Scientific Unit, 184Д0Д Rajakoski, Pechengsky District, Murmansk Region, Russia.
