Pasvik Strict Nature Reserve, situated in the northwesternmost corner of the Murmansk Region, has been collecting phenological data since 1993 in accordance with methodological guidelines within its major re search theme "Nature Chronicles" (Filonov and Nukhimovskaya, 1985; Nature Chronicles..., 1993). Being the third and the youngest strict nature reserve in the Kola Arctic, Pasvik has naturally built its research work on the nature’s calendar of one of the oldest Russian strict nature reserve, the Lapland Reserve, which is also situated in the northern taiga subzone, in the north of the Green Belt of Fennoscandia. Kandalakshsky Reserve, which occupies some of the mainland and islands in the Barents and White Seas, has less similarity to the Pasvik Reserve's nature. As materials were piling up, the idea dawned to start collecting uniform data for the region at large. The pilot project “Seasonal Life of Nature in the Kola North” was initiated (Seasonal..., 1996). Its participants were the three strict nature reserves of the Murmansk Region, the Polar-Alpine Botanical Garden and Institute of the Kola Science Centre RAS and the Svanhovd Environmental Centre, Norway (nowadays - NIBIO Svanhovd). For several growing seasons we collected materials on 19 plant species, recording 16 phenological phases for each of them, following pre-agreed routes and the same protocol (Makarova et al., 2001; appendix 5). This project ended early in the 21st century, but almost immediately rendered impetus to a series of international scientific projects such as PhenoClim and others (Shutova et al., 2004, 2005; Karlsen et al., 2008, 2012a, b). Launched at the same time and now running for over 15 years is the international school project “Phenology of the North Calotte"*. Teaching and learning aids have been produced (Korjakin and Flo, 2003), website has been designed and operates (http://www.miljolare.no/en/ about/). Networking between schools of the Murmansk Region and Nor way is promoted. Kids, either guided by a teacher or unsupervised, have for several years been doing phenological observations and entering data into the website’s database (Makarova and Balabkina, 2007; Makarova, Polikarpova and Krotova, 2010; Makarova and Polikarpova, 2012; Weis- blum and Parfey-Karpovich, 2015). 1 7 6 ................................................................................................................A phenological atlas of plants
