Ornithological reports about the Varangerfjord and, particularly, the fauna of South Varanger in 1900—1906», who studied bird fauna in the border area between Norway and Russia. For the first time, the publication is made in abridged Russian translation and English paraphrase. Also, H. Schaanning's biography is presented as well as his great-grandson reminiscences; an attempt is made to analyze the bird fauna changes since the beginning of the XX cen tury until the present days, based on the regular research carried out in the Pasvik Reserve, and to assess the impact of Hans Schaanning's personality and work on the development of amateur ornithology and nature-based tourism in the Trilateral transboundary park Pasvik—Inari.
