Географическое положение, харак теризующееся отдаленностью от других регионов России и близостью к зарубежным странам, возмож ность круглогодичной навигации в сочетании с действующим Север ным морским путем, богатейшие минерально-сырьевые, лесные и рыбные ресурсы, комплекс про мышленных предприятий по их добыче и переработке сформировали на Кольском полуострове особый, стратегически важный регион стра ны. История освоения территории Кольского Севера - это в первую оче редь строительство железной дороги и морского порта в начале прошлого столетия, создание военно-морского, рыболовного и ледокольного фло тов, строительство городов, крупных хозяйственных комплексов и многое другое. Трудом нескольких поко лений геологов на Кольском полу острове обнаружены разнообразные минерально-сырьевые ресурсы: более Murmansk region is a unique area o f the European North of the Russian Federation. The history of the Kola Peninsula develop ment is primarily a construction of the railroad and seaport in the beginning of last century, the establishment of naval, fishing and ice-breaking fleet, the construction of cities, large commercial complexes and much more. Due to the efforts of several genera tions of geologists, mighty rich m in eral resources were found on the Kola Peninsula.
