Balsvik •ш Partisans in Finnmark during World War II — resistance without honour The article describes the activities of the group of Norwe gian resistance fighters referred to as partisans during World War 11. They undertook their activities in the no rthe rnmos t pa rt of Norway in collaboration with personnel from the So viet Union. The observation of German tran spo rt ships head ing for the Litza front and communication of intelligence in formation to Murmansk we re made especially difficult by the large presence of German troops and the harsh natural condi tions. The intelligence activities involved a numbe r of civilian helpers, whose fate was sealed along with th a t of the pa rti sans themselves when they we re rounded up by the German occupying forces. During the Cold War, surviving partisans were suspected of being Soviet agents, and their resistance effort during the wa r years was largely ignored. Many of them would face a heavy bu rden in encounters with the local and national community.
