ANTHROPOGENIC CHANGES OF LOTHIC ECOSYSTEMS IN THE MURMANSK REGION. Volume 1: Kovdor area. - Apatity: Print. Kola Science Centre RAS, 2005. —234 p. The monograph describes characteristics peculiar to formation of quality of surface water and bottom sediments as well as the response of hydrobionts of the Kovdor lake-river system Ena in the impact zone of enterprises of the Kovdor industrial area with the JSC "Kovdor GOK" being the largest one. There are given results on investigations of hydrochemical composition of water objects, contemporary chemical composition of bottom sediments and distribution regularities of elements inside them. Special attention is paid to the studies of manganese in surface water of the Kovdor area as this heavy metal is one of the main pollutants. There are determined the sources of manganese entiy in water ecosystems, given an extensive review of manganese behaviour in natural water as well as methods of its analysis. The monograph contains recommendations on reduction of manganese content in wastewater. It describes the contemporary state of phyto- and zooplankton, zoobenthos as well as the fish part of community in water reservoirs of the Kovdor area. There are given the population characteristics of white fish, vendace and salmon trout, results of pathologo- moiphological analysis of white fish and levels of heavy metals’ accumulation in fish oiganism. The monograph also contains recommendations on carrying out the monitoring of surface water quality in the Kovdor area aimed at substantial reduction of industrial load on environment and efficient management of ecological situation in the region. The monograph is of interest for ecologists, geoecologists, hydrochemists, geochemists, hydrobiologists and ichthyologists. II. - 81, tables - 48, bibliogr. - 301 ref.
