In streams, pools, lake shores and on temporarily or permanently wet cliffs, there are lichens specialists, which are ecologically similar to the species growing in the seashore littoral habitats. Fresh-water lichens normally cannot be found in eutrophic and polluted water and prefer conditions o f flowing water current.
