Coastal lichens Some lichens growing on the coast are rare inland, though they can occur inland more often, than species from the upper littoral. They aren’t exposed to the direct influence o f sea water, but the air is often humid with a high salt content; often they occupy dry mobile sand and use other plants as substrata.
