KoroleVa ^ ш н Sea Sandwort (Нопскепуаpeploides) easilyforms vast loosely or dense clumps on gravely, stony or sandy substratajust beyond the normal tide line grass as the beach gets uplifted and the substrate gets more stabilized. The species composition depends on the soil and hydrological characteristics. Seashore succession proceeds to coastal crowberry heathlands, Mountain Avens and herbs-dominated low dry grasslands and tall Arctic Sea Rocket (Cakile arctica) has shiny,fleshy leaves, white to light purpleflowers and segmented fruits. Leaves, stems andflower buds are mainly used as a spice, as they have a bitter taste and are rich in vitamin С herbs-dominated mesophytic meadows. There are fragments of salt marshes on clay soil in sheltered positions below the high tide mark - but on Soroya this habitat is quite rare. Populations o fCurved Sedge (Carex maritima) easily colonize sandy beaches and dunes Sea Parsley, or Scotch Lovage (Ligusticum scothicum) grows in stony and gravely coasts.
