1 4 7 Hunter’s lodge During the Polar moonlit night, I while my time away. The Polar night, she is so steadfast with me, whether I’m hungry or full. An unsuccessful hunt: a hurricane or snowfall! Suddenly something goes wrong in the soul and rosy life is not so joyful! But reality suggests: don’t hurry away without eating. Appetite’s a serious fate, don’t make light of it in winter! In that hut near the river, a window opens to the east. There are no lamps, there are no stoves, but there’s a merry fireplace! On the hearth the firewood is not crowded, there’s sunshine in every little corner. It sings songs in the night, solely in the Saami tongue! In those songs I hear the echoes of someone’s jo y and hardship! And his tune is not gaudy, it’s precious to me, like an amulet!
